Avoiding Clutter In Your Child’s Bedroom

Apr 7

Providing your children with a comfortable and stimulating environment is of utmost importance for their healthy development. An organized, tidy and cozy atmosphere can affect your children’s mood positively, enhancing their creativity and providing them with a space to create precious childhood memories. Check out these great design tips so that you, too, can decorate your kids’ room in a stylish, creative and stimulating way without spending a fortune.

  • Get rid of clutter. The first step towards creating a stimulating environment for your children is eliminating clutter. Your child’s room can quickly become cluttered with book reports, old toys, and dirty clothes. To get a fresh start, go through your child’s clothing and sort them into what still fits and what doesn’t. Donate older pieces that your child has outgrown – this will clear out space for fun, new pieces!  Then move on to the toy chest. Throw away any broken toys or items that your child has outgrown. Often, you can donate these items as well. If you do choose to donate, make your child part of the process so they can see the good they’re doing. When you’re going through everything, remind your child that by eliminating clutter, you’ll be freeing up a lot of space that can be used in a constructive and creative way. In an effort to maintain this newly-tidied space, create a chore chart for your child to follow when they get home from school (put shoes away, clean up toys when done, etc.).
  • Add storage. Storage plays an important role in avoiding clutter, so introduce plenty of storage to your child’s floorplan. An affordable and efficient solution is using the space under the bed and adding several pull-out plastic drawers to store seasonal clothing. For easy toy storage, use low shelving or a unit that can be filled with cloth cubes. This system will make toys easy for kids to access and put away, helping to maintain an organized space.
  • Brighten with color. Instantly change the look and feel of your child’s bedroom with a fresh coat of paint. If your kid’s room is small, Glen Carbon, IL painters recommend using brighter hues to create a feeling of spaciousness. Use trendy colors like beige, gray, pale turquoise, and soft terracotta to create an ambiance of softness and calmness in your child’s bedroom. Additionally, a neutral palette provides you with many opportunities to introduce more vibrant shades for accent details – there’s no reason why your kid’s room can’t be stylish and practical!
  • Celebrate creativity. Harness your child’s creativity by providing them with an outlet to create. Chalkboard walls are a great addition to any child’s bedroom, giving them a safe space to draw on their walls – literally! If you don’t trust your child to keep their doodling confined to one wall, you can exhibit paper drawings, crafts, and school projects on the walls.
