Creating a Sense of Openness with your Bathroom Remodeling Project

Jun 28

Some homeowners feel cramped in certain spaces in their house.  Bathrooms are often difficult to maneuver in because of their size.  When considering a remodel, one of your goals should be to make your bathroom functional and welcoming.  Whether you are considering remodeling your master bathroom or your entryway powder room, here are a few ways to add the illusion of space to your bathroom:

Large Mirrors

Large mirrors create the illusion of space- the bigger, the better. Some homeowners choose to use mirrors for an entire wall or on a large cabinet. While this doesn’t actually give you more space, it will make your bathroom seem more open.

Frameless Shower Doors

The more transparent your shower door is, the more open the room will seem. Glass shower doors with minimal trim will make your shower seem less invasive. A frameless shower door will give your bathroom a contemporary feel and gives you a modernized space. Frameless shower and tub enclosures have become increasingly popular and give your bathroom an elegant feel.

Sliding Door

Some homeowners have chosen to use a sliding door for a bathroom as opposed to a door that opens into the room. While this won’t doesn’t technically give you more space, you now have less wasted space when the door is opened.

Neutral Wall Colors

Painting your walls neutral colors is an easy way to create the illusion that the room is larger. In a bathroom, pale and pastel colors will be best. These colors will reflect the light in the room. If you still want to use bright colors, consider them for towels or other details.

Natural Light

Natural light can be difficult to achieve in a bathroom. If you have a shower or bath in the bathroom you are remodeling, there is the issue of privacy. Consider adding larger windows with sun-shades that allow light in while blocking vision into the room. If your bathroom does not have any windows, consider adding a sky light.
