Try These Texture Trends

Feb 27

Texture has always played a major role in the design world. So much so, that it’s celebrated each year in Frankfurt, Germany, where brilliant designers from around the world come together for a home and textile market called Heimtextil. Over 2,500 exhibitors from 68 countries gather to present what designs are going to pop that year. These were some of the most popular textures discussed for 2017:

  • 3D Textures. In this trend, 3D designs are created through the use of texture. Color isn’t a major factor in these types of textures; instead, neutral hues pave the way for calming, subtle, and sophisticated patterns. Think soft sand dollar prints on sheer curtains, or delicate floral outlines on throw pillows and blankets.
  • Energetic Textures. Our world is becoming more and more digital, and the lines between cyberspace and the physical world often become blurred. It only makes sense, then, that kaleidoscopic patterns have made their way into the textural trends for 2017. Think saturated colors married with geometric shapes and prints. This trend is particularly popular in the fashion world, but it’s translated into home decor through accent pieces, like chairs, curtains, and pillows.
  • Natural Textures. Interior design has pulled from nature for this trend. Textures like bamboo, hemp, taffeta, and wicker have all made themselves comfortable in the world of home design. This year, we can expect that trend to reign true, along with textures that feature urban landscapes and sustainable imagery that focuses on the lush greenery and harmony of nature.
  • Faux Textures. Faux is an extremely popular home design trend, mostly because you’re able to achieve a certain look for a significantly lesser amount of money. Many homeowners forget that they can add texture their walls through faux painting methods. From granite, to stone, to wood and even cashmere, there are a number of ways to transform the look of a wall.
  • Enriched Textures. Luxurious fabrics are being combined with casual textures to create a look suitable for everyday life. Incorporating these elements into your home decor adds a sense of elegance without appearing too over-the-top. Whether it’s a damask wall covering that features metallic accents, an accent chair upholstered in sheer fabric, or a throw pillow decorated with leather and silk, you’ll find this trend in any home furnishing showroom this year.

Go forth, armed with this knowledge, and bring these texture trends into your home decor!
