Clever Storage Ideas for Your Home

Jun 18

No matter how much spring cleaning you were able to accomplish this year, chances are you still have a lot of items that seem to be cluttering up your house or apartment. However, your home may offer more storage space than you thought – it just takes a little creativity and organization.

Functional Furniture: One way to save space in your home is to purchase furniture that also doubles as storage. Buy beds that have built in drawers on the bottom or shelving in the headboard, coffee tables that open up with storage in the middle, benches that double as places to tuck away extra pillows or blankets, etc.

Turn Closets Into Usable Spaces: Taking the doors off of a closet can make a big difference in opening up a room. If you are using a smaller spare bedroom as a home office, remove the closet doors and place your desk into the space. Adding shelves above the desk and a filing cabinet gives you the perfect organized space to be productive and keeps papers and other materials from cluttering up the desk.

Utilize All of the Space: One way to organize is to make sure you are utilizing all of the space in your home. For instance, floor to ceiling shelving gives you a great space to place books, picture frames, and other knick-knacks. Plus, if you are working with a small space, vertical shelving can actually make the room appear larger. Corners are another area that are easily overlooked. If you have a small bathroom, for instance, small corner shelving can make a world of difference.

Get A Small Storage Unit: If you don’t have a basement or attic for storage, consider renting out a University City storage unit. You can store seasonal items like decorations and clothing when not in use instead of trying to squeeze them into already overflowing closets and dressers. Make sure to carefully label things so you can easily access them when you need to.
