AC Energy Saving Tips

May 7

With summer in our sights, you might be starting to stress about turning your air conditioning unit on again. Hot weather doesn’t have to equal high a/c bills, though. Here are some tips to save on your air conditioning energy bill this summer.

  • Make sure the sensitivity settings are on so the thermostat doesn’t go on and off as frequently. The switching back and forth takes more energy than if it is just continuously running at different temperatures.
  • Get a programmable thermostat and use it. They are inexpensive compared to the amount you will save all year on your energy bill. Don’t pay to cool your empty house all day while you’re at work. Set the thermostat to start cooling down your house about 30 minutes before you’re due to get home.
  • Regular maintenance is incredibly important. Change air filters regularly per manufacturer’s instructions. Keep records of maintenance if you are doing it yourself. Bucks county ac repair suggest you arrange for yearly tune-ups and onsite visits to check and adjust different components for optimum performance.
  • Keep vents open and clean. You’d be surprised at how many of your vents may be closed around the house. Keeping them clean and open help airflow in your house and allow the cool air to travel easily. Also make sure there are no leaks and sealing problems in the air ducts. This can have you running you a/c at a much higher fan level than really needed, leading to a higher bill as well.
  • Get rid of hot stale air. Fans should spin counter-clockwise during the hot months to push hot air up and out, keeping your home as cool as possible. While in the cooler months, the fan should spin clockwise to trap heat inside.

Don’t sweat your air conditioning bill this summer. Save without spending by simply keeping up with maintenance and cleaning of your a/c unit while redirecting hot air throughout your home with fans.
