How to Wrap the Perfect Present

Dec 17

December is a time to put down the hammer and paint brush and focus on time with family and friends. For many of us, that time with loved ones involves presents! Show your loved ones how much they mean to you not only by giving them the perfect gift this holiday season, but by wrapping it beautifully.

Supplies:

  • Gift
  • Gift box
  • Tissue paper
  • Wrapping paper
  • Tape
  • Ribbon (if desired)

  1. Box it up. If your gift didn’t come in a box, buy one, or remember to ask while you’re out shopping. The later in the season it is, though, the more stingy stores are with their gift boxes. Remember, boxes are the easiest shape to wrap beautifully. Be sure you use a box that is wide enough, long enough, and deep enough for your gift to fit into without changing the shape of the box.
  2. Lay tissue paper along the bottom of the box. It should be the same width of the box, so fold the tissue paper as needed to fit it to size. For the length, leave enough tissue paper over the sides of the box that will cover the gift when folded over. Add stuffing as needed to ensure your gift doesn’t slide around in the box.
  3. Place your gift into the box and fold the sides of the tissue paper over to cover your gift. Adorn the tissue paper with a holiday sticker if desired.
  4. Close the box and use a small piece of tape or another holiday sticker to secure the lid to the box.
  5. Roll out your wrapping paper, but don’t cut it yet. Place your present upside down in the center of the wrapping paper. This will ensure all of the unsightly tape is on the bottom of the box and the recipient opens the gift right side up. Bring the paper up and over the box all the way to the opposite edge. Gauge how much additional paper you’ll need to cover the remaining side of the box. Cut the paper.
  6. Center the gift on the wrapping paper again, and bring one side of the paper up the side and to the middle of the box. Place a small piece of tape to secure the wrapping paper to the box in the middle.
  7. Create a seam on the remaining end of the wrapping paper. Fold over the last half-inch of the wrapping paper and make a crease. Bring this side up and over the box and secure with tape.
  8. Flatten the wrapping paper in the center of the narrow ends of your box, creating two pairs of wings. Fold the top portion down against the box and secure with tape. Bring up the remaining paper and secure it to the wrapping paper.
  9. Stand the box up on the side you just taped. Repeat step 8.
  10. Decorate as you see fit. Whether you top your box with a bow, ribbon, or custom gift tags, your present will show the time and effort you put into not only choosing the gift, but wrapping it, too.
